NASCAR is one of America's greatest pastimes and Jimmie Johnson is one of the organization’s best drivers. He drives the Lowes Chevy Impala with the No. 48. What makes Johnson so great is his dedication and passion toward the art of driving.
Jimmie Johnson was born in El Cajon, California on September 17, 1975. Johnson started his career at the age of five racing 50cc motorcycles. At the age of six he won the 60cc series despite his knee injury. Jimmie Johnson slowly progressed to four wheels. He raced in off road leagues such as SODA, Score International and the Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group. Johnson was awarded Rookie of the Year in all three leagues. Johnson was also a field reporter for ESPN in the SODA series. In 1998, Johnson joined the American Speed Association. He won Rookie of the Year and finished in fourth place. At the same time he began to race in the NASCAR Busch Series.
Johnson began racing in the Cup series in 2002. Johnson was the first rookie to ever lead in the point standings. In 2006, Jimmy Johnson became the only driver to win the Daytona 500, Allstate 400 at Brickyard, Aaron’s 499 and the NASCAR Sprint Cup all in the same year. In 2006, Jimmy Johnson’s total winnings amounted to $15,770,125.
A full list of accomplishments by Johnson would be too lengthy. He started off young and is still racing NASCAR to this very day. Despite all the great racers out there, it’s hard to find one more skilled and dedicated than Jimmie Johnson.
