Carl Edwards is an American NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series driver for Roush Fenway Racing. He drives the number 99 Aflac Ford Fusion in the Sprint Cup Series and the number 60 Ford Fusion in the Nationwide Series. His career began in 1993 racing minicup cars. In 1994, he won four races in the MMRA National Future Stars Minicup series. Over the next two years he won more races. In 2001 he raced in seven NASCAR competitions and in 2003, he was driving the number 99 Ford and won three races and "Rookie of The Year."
In 2004, he scored three wins in the Nextel Cup Series finishing tenth. Edwards won his second Nextel Cup at the Pocono 500 in 2005 and his third victory in the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500. Edwards got his fourth win in Texas and won the 2005 Busch Series Rookie of the Year. 2006 saw Edwards finish in second place at Michigan Speedway. In 2007, Edwards won the Citizens Bank 400. He won his second race of the season, and sixth career Cup race at the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. At the end of the regular season, Edwards ranked sixth in overall standings. He finished ninth in the finals and won his first NASCAR Busch Series Championship.
In 2008 he won the Auto Club 500 and the UAW-Dodge 400. For the first time he was at the top of the point standings. Unfortunately, NASCAR penalized him in post-race inspections. This didn't stop him from adding to his list of victories later in the year. Edwards now races the number 99 Claritin car this year, despite having been in one of the most violent crashes in NASCAR history. Will his luck and skill carry him through to success?
