Carl Edwards' Car

A particularly successful young NASCAR driver, Carl Edwards has 16 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins. Carl Edwards' car that has helped him gain notoriety on the race track is the #99 Aflac Ford Fusion.

In 2002, Carl Edwards started his NASCAR career racing trucks in the Craftsman Truck Series, now known as the Camping World Truck Series. Carl Edwards' car there was the #99 Ford F-150, and his early success included being awarded the Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year award for 2003. Despite entering the Sprint Cup Series and the Busch Series (now known as the Nationwide Series), Edwards still participated in truck racing through 2007.

Carl Edwards' racing skills improved annually as he raced for Roush Fenway Racing. Perhaps his most esteemed achievement was becoming the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Champion. Carl Edwards' car in the Nationwide/Busch series is the #60 Ford Fusion. Cars raced in the Nationwide/Busch series differ from those in the Sprint Cup; they are usually lighter and have less powerful engines.

Edwards has performed well as a driver in the Sprint Cup Series. His best year racing in this series came in 2008. He finished second in the overall rankings, losing only to Jimmie Johnson, who won his third straight Sprint Cup. However, Edwards' 2008 season was not without controversy, as he was penalized 100 driver points after NASCAR officials discovered that Carl Edwards' car was missing the cover on his oil tank following a Las Vegas Motor Speedway win. This penalty effectively cost him the chance to finish first in the 2008 Sprint Cup standings.

Though a championed young driver, at nearly 30 years of age, Carl Edwards has yet to win the Sprint Cup. However, with his continual improvement each year, Edwards may have a chance at winning it in the future.
